Sugarbabies –
A Queer Comedy Pilot
Produced by: James Bell & Leo LeBeau
Cast: Jacade Simpson (Glenn), James Phoon (Diamond), Emily Carding (Simona)
About the Show:
Sugarbabies is a bold, unapologetic dive into the scandalous world of sugar dating. Produced alongside Leo LeBeau for his graduation project at the National Film and Television School, the pilot explores the juicy, power-laden dynamics between sugar babies and their benefactors. But it’s not just about the cash and chemistry—Sugarbabies is dripping with queer energy, giving us a playful, provocative take on modern dating.
From outrageous moments to tender connections, we wanted to showcase the thrill of navigating power and intimacy with a wink and a nudge. It’s messy, it’s sexy, and it’s hilarious.
Queer Focus:
Sugarbabies is, at its heart, a celebration of queer life. Leo and I were intent on highlighting the vibrancy and complexity of queer relationships in a way that felt fresh, sexy, and maybe even a little bit scandalous. Through sugar dating, we dive into the push-and-pull of power, desire, and the price of intimacy, while keeping it all wrapped in an irreverent, playful package.
Premiere:
We had our big premiere at Picturehouse Central in London, and it was an absolute thrill. There’s nothing quite like seeing your risqué, boundary-pushing work light up the big screen. The audience reaction was priceless—we knew we’d created something cheeky and unique.
Behind the Scenes:
Creating Sugarbabies with Leo and our fearless cast was an absolute blast. We wanted to push the envelope, mixing raunchy humor with moments of genuine emotion. Jacade Simpson, James Phoon, and Emily Carding brought so much charisma to their roles, making every scene pop with intensity, humor, and a bit of spice.
